It crashed AGAIN. The only program I have that crashes more is Adobe Digital Reader. So the main Calibre package has reader ability, for many people ebook or electronic formats. They it is known as View viewing, viewer.
Technically the reading ability is performed by another separate app program that comes with all the package. Yes, technically the Calibre app doesn't need reading viewing ability inbuilt. However, you may open Calibre read supported book formats, by selecting/while using the View feature, within Calibre. Or you are able to open you app alone, name E-book viewer. Also there may be another reader name LRF viewer which only supports LRF format.
So even though the claim in regards to the Calibre app itself, about not being a reader, is just technically correct, the claim isn't correct about the main Calibre package; it does feature reader viewer ability.
They likely made the reader another app intentionally for some advantages or pros. Perhaps even to permit setting other external readers plugins since the default.

True, the Calibre program itself is really a collection/library manager organizer. It does include 2 viewers/readers - E-book viewer the one which supports many major formats, LRF viewer for LRF format.
When I am in Calibre I use the View choice for selected ebook, it opens from the E-book viewer maybe providing it can be a supported format. The settings with this are under Preferences, Behaviors.
Everything works good and try to the maker in this software updates this often.
Found some bugs that frequently got fixed later.
