I used an extremely early version of the software the Broderbund release and enjoyed using it to construct family trees. At the time, though, the artificial intelligence aspects of the software program and associated website, weren't well developed, and I found the interface just a little clunky and unattractive. Its been no less than 10 years since those early experiences with genealogy software, and Im very willing to see how much everything has progressed after that. The new software appears somewhat complicated when you're getting started, which I consider a good thing. In order to capture and correctly correlate reams of internet data, the application form needs to be robust. Ive found the brand new software plus the constantly improving fantastic to use. You can keep things as simple while you like, or dig and substantiate as deeply because you like.

Ive been with all the FTM production for about 20 years now. This version requires 3.5 to function, which needless to say none in the packaging or systems requirements inform you, you may need.
After spending about four hours for getting framework to update correctly needed to de-install and reinstall many times, I finally got FTM to fit properly. Then the software program performed an auto-update to your FTM software and Windows performed an auto-update to framework. this morning FTM crashes and does not load. Every other program on my own computer works except FTM 2011.
Folks, until moves away through the terrible framework, stay far from the product. Ive lost money getting the last few versions of FTM. The last version that operates for me is FTM 2006, that is what Im going to have to make use of because with the FTM 2011 crashware.

I stood a really old version of Ultimate Family Tree by another company that stopped supporting their product way back inside late 1990s. I was competent to keep mine running under WinXP, but once it came time and energy to upgrade my PC into a Win7 Pro 64 bit version, my UFTM won't run. I purchased Family Tree Maker 2010 you will find, its lots different, and extremely much integrated with ancestry dot com, but at the least it worked under Win7! With three months of paid subscription to ancestrys web resources, I was able to generate incredible progress with my Tree over 1, 600 people connected, some going back towards the 700-800AD period. I dont think it's locked up, not just once, under Win7 - so thats fabulous news.
I then purchased the Family Tree Maker 2011 upgrade directly through the manufacturer last Christmas 2010, because upgrade price was low, and yes it came with 2 more free weeks of ancestrys access. I had allow me to tree research sit 3-4 months, and I was actually pleasantly surprised with simply how much data have been added to your internet resources this program and also the free subscription made available to me, in mere those couple of months. Id rate Family Tree Maker 2011 5 stars too, but I really didnt identify that much new or a lot better than the 2010 version. If you liked the 2011 version, don't give up, the 2011 version will not be that different. If your old version wont run under Win7, then get this year's or 2011 version, and you can salvage your prior work - mine imported okay! The upgrade from 2010 to 2011 also worked just great.

I am so disappointed. FTM 16 would be a descent program. Unfortunately there is certainly no company support for FTM16 inside a 64 bit system. I therefore thought an upgrade to 2011 was justified. But the experience continues to be horrible. The interface is terrible along with the book should be consulted on even simplest of tasks. There is nothing intuitive with this program. Its handling of sources is lousy. After two weeks we have decided to go to FTM16 in the meantime and keep in search of another program to migrate to.

I also ended up working through an older version of FTM. I upgraded to Family Tree Maker Deluxe when I bought a fresh computer with Windows 7. Im not the sharpest tool inside shed when it comes to using the services of any software applications but have been able to fuddle thru most on the time. Family Tree Maker Deluxe has completely lost me. Right now Im thinking my Geneaology research days have ended. This latest version is just slightly too frustrating.

Was using FTM 2011 program without difficulty ahead of installation of upgrade Windows 8.
Have attempted a couple of times have lost count the number of to uninstall FTM 2011 and reinstall. Upon trying to spread out, receive error message FTM 2011 has eradicated.
Have tried using Family Tree Maker patch for FTM 2011 that's suggested but still no luck.
My FTM 2011 version is 20.0.368.
Ventured into regedit , nor have enough expert knowledge realize changes could be needed after uninstalling FTM 2011 before any reinstallation is attempted. Have been told previously by others changes to registry are usually necesary before reinstalling a plan.
Presently am out of the house using laptop and all sorts of window xp pro and sp disks installation disks at your home. All I have available - FTM 2011 and windows 8.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10, which I do like. I have Family Tree Maker from Ancestry 2011. It has not opened since I did the upgrade. Also, when I begin my computer, I get a note that One Drive wont open, check my connection.

Family Tree Maker 16 will work just great with Windows 7, which has a couple reasonably easy and totally effective work-arounds more about that at the finish of this message. In my case, I recently moved my FTM 16 program which in fact had used XP to a brand new computer using Windows 7. I am told the work-arounds work for Vista.
Those individuals who have used the pre-FTM 2008 versions for many years should understand that that FTM 16 was the past version on the traditional FTM software. It was superseded by a fully different software platform FTM 2008, followed up subsequently by FTM 2009, FTM 2010 and FTM 2011. FTMs new platform just isn't even compatible while using traditional versions culminated in FTM 16. As such, a lot of those who do upgrade to FTM 2008-2011 keep their FTM 16 active, toggling to and fro to import genealogical data, and keep one or perhaps the other as his or her primary publication file. The primary issue here is just not whether FTM 16 is fine with Vista or WIndows 17, but whether you intend to move through to upgrade FTM 2008/2009/2010. I personally have maintained FTM 16 as my primary genealogy software, and dapple with later versions if I wish to electronically import data from That being said, I have always imported such data right into a separate FTW file, so I could fix it up, check it and format so that it is cosistent with my primary file, and after that import that into my main file. Of course when I go over the registration process, it says its registered but still won't allow me having access to ancestry and offers me the identical got any ideas? I too am seeking to load my Family Tree Maker version 16 onto my lap top with Windows 7. I ran this software from my original disk. The icon is on my own desk top, but once I click upon it I receive a box that asks where I want to spread out the Family File from. Underneath may be the Family Tree Maker page - - they have a tool bar but no family sheet. Nothing I do works. Ive downloaded the Vistaupdate mentioned. This procedure is proven to work. On my first atempt pursuing the fix, the very best button didn't work, though the button under DEATH PLACE did. Then, the superior button started working, too. Since you've experience with FTM 16 and Windows 7, I have an issue. I was happily surprised that my FTM database loaded fine in my new Windows 7 computer. Everything seems to operate OK with one exception. When I used FTM in my XP computer and wanted to add an active source documentation, I could type inside a few letters and yes it took me to your source. Now with Windows 7, I should scroll down through the many sources to seek out what I want. I have a large database which means this takes a little while. Any ideas?

Well, That is to say the existing FTM version works fine about the newer Windows versions EXCEPT for one main and fairly significant conflict. That is converting anything to a PDF file, including the reports, outlines, books, etc. that FTM makes so nicely. Both of my newer machines running Win 7 8 unfortunately are 64 bit machines which others tell me may be the real problem, not the version of Windows. So, if I understand others comments within this subject correctly, if there is a Win 7 or Win 8 but with all the 32 bit machine, then you must be able to use all older FTM functions perfectly well, yet not if you then have a 64 bit machine for all those very few select functions the 64 bits obviate. So, Im keeping 3 old 32 bit machines with XP as backups and for your occasional time I need to generate a PDF file with one of those aforementioned functions. Seems to be really the only answer unfortunately. Id surely want to know if anyone comes out using a patch for that older FTM versions allowing all functions to figure well having a 64 bit system.

I have a great deal information that I have painstakingly input into FTM. I belonged to FTM long ago before it was sold to Ancestry. I participate in Ancestry, but do not would like to have make use of their FTM. I appreciated your touch upon not being suckered into buying an update.
