This book is quite well written and David is clearly a fantastic educator, as his videos reveal. I would recommend both this book along with the video series being a basic guide to Flash Builder/Flex 4. However, I feel the idea of Bible can be a fairly serious misnomer. The book has an overview, but switches into very little detail on any subject. Once you start actually using Flex to make a project, youre planning to run into LOTS of questions. How do I clear a questionnaire? How do I effectively make multiple HTTPService requests from one instance of the category? Does a TitleWindow must be popped up before its public properties and methods can be found? How do I create skinnable icon button without the need of label? What are the rules in order to use of the various meta tags Bindable, Embed, etc? How do I make an MVC app in Flex? How do I build a custom data service?

One area by which we have made improvements which will not be immediately obvious is within relation towards the architecture of Flash Builder plus the installer. There are no longer separate downloads for your standalone and plug-in versions in places you add Flash Builder with an existing Eclipse instance; instead, after installation in the standalone version, you have a small utility found within the utilities directory to configure Flash Builder to work with a number of existing versions of Eclipse.
In addition to updated platform support, we also spent a large amount of time examining large customer projects in Flash Builder to view where performance and memory usage could be improved. We identified three specific locations significant improvements might be made - design view, refactoring and profiling. For the latter two areas, you will recognize that the time taken up complete operations has reduced by around 65%, which makes it far more productive to utilize projects who have a large quantity of source files or multiple dependent library projects.
