1. Understanding How FS CFS recognises add-on aircraft
Using Windows Explorer navigate on your FS folder. The default location is C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFs2002
Open the folders as illustrated note the sub folder structure.
1st You will notice an airplane folder. This is where each of the aircraft are stored. Each aircraft is stored to be a separate folder inside aircraft folder each contain 4 sub folders Model, Panel, Sound Texture and also other required files - the oxygen files.
The structure of aircraft is similar to this whenever you realise this that you are 90% effective at installing your aircraft without trouble.
This instruction doesn't apply to self extracting files - some add-ons unzip as a possible exe file - Install these simply by following the on-screen install instructions. If they dont turn up then extract these phones a temp folder manually install as below
It is vital to keep your files organised. For this reason it is strongly recommended you do this:
1. Create a new folder on the computer particularly for dealing with FS downloads. It is generally preferable to keep these outside most of your FS folder in order to avoid confusion make clearing unwanted files easier. For example lets call the folder FS Downloads - where we are going to download extract zipped files on the internet.
Important: ALWAYS Unzip in a Temp Folder - it is always the best way to prevent problems.
It can't be stressed enough - DO NOT UNZIP AIRCRAFT DIRECTLY INTO THE AIRCRAFT FOLDER IN FS - that is the No.1 reason aircraft do not turn up. Ignore any authors instructions to try and do this
2. Open the FS Downloads folder on your own computer Right Click the required file. Choose Extract to FS You are now determining to unzip the file to the FS Downloads folder.
I have deliberately chosen the file download here since it is a prime demonstration of why people usually have difficulty installing aircraft. You will observe that when extracted there may be A-10 folder inside the a-10 folder - before we have seen the model/panel/sound texture folders. The one you have to install may be the folder containing the Model/Panel/Sound Texure folder directly.
Using Windows Explorer open into two windows each occupying 1/2 of one's screen.
In the Left window open your FS Downloads folder select the sign from the aircraft you want to install. As described above - be sure the folder contains 4 sub folders - Model, Panel, Sound Texture.
In the Right window throw open FS2004/2002 Or whatever Sim you're installing into so it is possible to see the sub folders - see picture below.
Drag the folder illustrated into your Aircraft folder in FS2004/2002.
4. If you Cannot Find the Aircraft within the Select Aircraft Menu
Look with the file from the folder of the installed aircraft. From this illustration you will notice how the aircraft is identified in Flight Simulator.
