Sadly, they removed the Mac version for download altogether. Presumably the bugs from the program were really nasty. Im unclear yet in the event the Mac version will return.
Nice post, Will. I downloaded Pencil started tinkering with it, havent animated anything yet, but up to now I must say I love enter tools. Very basic without a doubt, though the pencil tool includes a wonderfully natural sketchy feel when officially used on bitmap layers. It incorporates a different function on vector layers, a lot more like the stroke tool in TBS. It only draws invisible lines in vector layers however in bitmap ones its a consistent pencil. The color palette is basic for certain, however, you can add custom colors for it also save import custom palettes, which can be nice. My ultimate test is always to see how easily I can alternate from this to TBS. Im gonna get one of these simple test animation by it tonight, but until now its really worth price! Have you completed it yet? I got the impression that this mac version experienced a few more features compared to the pc version.
Well, I played by it a bit it exports nicely being a series of PNGs into toonboom. Also exports to SWF stright from Pencil, but I think for all even so the most basic of animations youd would like to bring it into TBS for camera moves whatnot. Anyway, I should say Im thrilled with your chance tools. As I said inside my last comment the pencil tool feels really natural when applying a bitmap layer it provides for a nice sketchy look that Im a huge fan of. I did a shorter animation of the eye blinking, drawn with all the pencil tool to be a bitmap in Pencil, then imported the style sequence in TBS added color using a layer within the pencil. I think it was released looking fantastic I like the fashion a lot. Im 100% sure Ill be going after more stuff like that from the near future. If you would like to check it out Ill post it to my blog. Overall Im pretty impressed with Pencil inside short time Ive played by it.

Ive seen some work done along with it, and wow, impressive. Its basically a lightweight table. Do your colouring and compositing elsewhere.:P /

Surprised you havent listed ARTOONIX which can be an excellent section of 2d animation software. It may be used free provided like but needs to become registered if you prefer a few advanced functions for example tweening. Many samples of Artoonix animations online or from the galleries on the homepage. The Featured gallery may be the one to check out. Ive tried it a lot with the last year. Also worth indicating that Creatoon has become not only cost-free but that we now have a good list of detailed tutorials that will also be downloaded.

Ive been using Creatoon for approximately a fortnight. It promises much, but from a steep learning curve Im near to despair the tutorials are for two main.5, NOT 3 and although theyre good, theyre not absolutely accurate or relevant. On XPpro SPK2, it's very buggy. Worst of all, it wont output AVI the rendering engine in Creatoon seems broken: its not much of a codec issue where I can tell. Done the many usual testsfixes, will get good PNGs yet not AVIs. Im attempting to make square 425x425 animations, with a lot of imported artwork, but few complex moves or alpha blends. It may seem to dislike non 4:3 aspect ratios, that's no help me! The AVI is usually a broken non-sync raster, with discernable images upon it but incorrect color information and missing lines, also it starts mid-line rather than with the beginning. It looks as being a collection of PAL/NTSC odd fields as opposed to frames. PNGs seem fine though. Did you know you can make use of Windows explorer being a flick-book animation? S.

Im undecided. Im likely to get my new computer tower Wednesday, five days away, and Im really eager for Synfig. Im just hoping itll work. Ive been seeking to buy programs like Flash or Aftereffects, but these are outrageously expensive, and Synfig seems PRECISELY like what I want, so Im just unsure. Has anyone had any luck accessing?
Synfig downloads do seem being tricky on occasion, in fact installing the thing can be a nightmare - definitely not much of a standard approach. I lost the battle after four total failures. However, I agree which it LOOKS just as if it needs to be a great package. Ive finally identified how to unlock CreaToon, and have trying it out. But I cant figure out tips on how to get a bitmap image cartoon body, head, etc. that stands alone with no white space around it. How do you achieve that? Is the transparancy that this tutorials mention? If I can figure out how to have the various parts on the parent and child to appear devoid of the box of white around them, I can progress. Can the finished cartoon be utilized in a video? When I save what Ive got goes into information that tells me I don't possess permission to open up. Also, where do you find the manual for CreaToon? When I employed to import images into Creatoon, I first used a program including Irfanview absolve to convert them into your png format. This allowed me to specify the encircling colours as transparent. WARNING - should your shapes contain white, dont use white as the nearby colour. TIM I cant explain the reason for ones problem. I just ran a test and it also downloads perfectly, so does the free, zipped program that to unlock it. I assume youre starting at /that's where I went. Its also essential to grab every one of the samples and animated tutorials and resources if you wish an easier start. I were built with a look at GIMP some time ago, but I didnt realize its very user-friendly. I cant remember how GIMP converts to png. Does it have you define which colour should become transparent or perhaps is it just a computerized process? If so, that could possibly be the root with the problem. Anyway, I use Irfanview and this has never failed me to create transparent images that will be imported into Creatoon. I have put together a quick tutorial and demo to indicate what I do. I have stood a few complications with CreaToon, however it is worth overcoming these as few programs hold the cut-out animation technique as his or her main priority straightforwardness of placing/moving pivot points is more than worth it alone. Can I just add a reminder about ARTOONIX for everyone who wants an excellent program for both traditional and experimental animation? The free version doesn't have a timebombs and is particularly limited only in having usage of a few high-end functions restricted. Its main weakness is always that - unlike Creatoon - it only has one centre of rotation which is not locked in place, but beyond it is must-see. Unusually, the sound functions are high grade and you can easily animate to sound with 1:1 accuracy between soundtrack and visuals. Although I sometimes use Creatoon, I mostly use Artoonix and after this have around 100 animations, demos and tutorials uploaded to Youtube. If you wish to check it out head to - -

rjeannie - - if youve already drawn your characters not having a specific animation put in mind, you will often have a problem. If your bodyparts may be exported after which imported with transparency for virtually every surrounding areas, youll have to work with software that will permit you to link them together employing a pinning or bone system. Toon Boom Studio is a great one but extremely expensive should you not have usage of discount for educational use. You also ought to pay up with the documentation. Current prices for TBS4.5 seem being around С‘100 for educational use around С‘30 for documentation whereas the primary commercial technique is closer to С‘300. Lightwave? Ive never tried it but have read reviews which rate it excellent. However, its way, way, WAY away from reach of my wallet. Last I heard, I think were talking around С‘900. Ive seen it credited on quite a couple of top class animations and animated shorts. It wont be as expensive as some with the gear they use from the top studios - but youd receive close. I hope you have a very friendly bank manager.

Toon Boom Studio is indeed a terrific product, but it is not the only product they have. Flip Boom is worthy if you are new to animation, and Toon Boom Animate is professional animation software. Lightwave is quite professional, and Alan is correct regarding it being price-of-a-small-car expensive. Ill do my advisable to keep the riff-raff random comments like cool beyond here.
For anyone who desires to delve in the turbulent and deep waters of 3d machinima animation, one program to take into account is MOVIESTORM. Just like the excellent midi sequencer Anvil Studio, the core of this software is free and fully functional without time period limit or restriction. You can then choose if they should buy additional resources and packs - however you dont must. Kawn whenever you say that you happen to be studying cartoon software, will you mean that you happen to be looking for some? The best advice I can offer is to navigate to the top in the page and scan into see which programs are mentioned - the way they work - what they have to can do - also to decide which ones might meet your requirements best. thanks to the post. Do additionally you know any free software to create panels? I draw cartoons, but still find it painful for making and arranging panels digitally. Looking for something which may make me life easy.
Cant help that has a panel creator - not a space Ive ever explored, although I know that comic creation is often a big interest for many. Maybe theres a forum somewhere to select from suggestions. However, I suspect that this type of thing you need will either be shareware or commercial.

For Synfig Windows you have to download 4 separate files and install them in the precise order. I had precisely the same problem explained by xav because Id mistakenly downloaded a bad 4 files from a list of about 6. After correcting larger than fifteen, it installed plus it ran - but personally I didnt like, it so after all of that hassle, I deleted it! Synfig suits some individuals, but others think it is a tad strange. Its all an instance of what befits you. However, it IS pretty powerful.

Id seen the messages about Creatoon. Im having precisely the same problem still. It runs like normal, even so it closes after some seconds. The pop-up purple Creatoon background tells me to subscribe for Creatoon. The download file shouldnt are the problem, Id tried it before, hardly on the revolutionary hard drive I have currently. The transfer file into a XP computer then transfer back solution should work if not with the fact that I dont have usage of computers with XP. Is there any connect to download file thats already unlocked?

Smith - just about sure what youre attempting to do or what OS you've. If its Vista, I think you may have REAL problems. Ive heard plenty of stories about Creatoon and numerous other software that destinations screaming on Vista. Creatoon successful on 98 and XP2, however you have to work with the unlock key after installing this program - Im fairly certain you cant just transfer a pre-registered copy not really that Ive tried, so I could possibly be wrong. I use XP2 and find this program to be 100% stable.

Id done a check on the web and apparently theres not any other solution rather than transfer the file into a computer with XP first. Ill just assist other programs then. Thanks to the help again.

I am in search of a free and program to generate timelapse video from still images taken with camera and intervalometer. Typical video editing software only generally seems to allow images to become imported for times just 0.2s or thereabout and that is too long and I would really want to produce the playback quality at 25 or 30fps. Any suggestions?

Mike - cant comment around the fps aspect because Ive never done anything with stopmo, apart from a couple of experiments with Tales Animator. Have a take a look at MONKEYJAM or TAPPTOONS. Theyre both free and aimed in the type of animation youre thinking about. Ive little idea how flexible these are generally for fps settings.

Maja - if you are using Vista, forget it. This is another demonstration of how that ghastly system will not work that has a piece of software not surprising Microsoft are ditching it and arent even going to release their traditional service pack to patch every one of the glitches. Check further last this forum for posts by Smith who reported precisely the same problem.

okay this really is my problem i acquired pencil nevertheless it isnt the amount of cartoon im employed to using and that i tryed creatoon as well as the synfig it shouldn't work since the creatoon one just shuts off while i enter it and i also did unlock it as well as the synfig one doesnt work and i also did download the studio next, i went to download the one that just said synfig and it also wouldnt ok, i'll please help o and i have a very windows xp.
