About Me Designer, Developer
Comments about OReilly Media Creating a Website: The Missing Manual, 3rd Edition :
I had some expertise in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript before I check out this book, nevertheless it was a pretty minimal familiarity mostly tinkering with them for an occasional hobby, and I hadnt worked any on the languages for almost a year. So, while I wasnt a whole beginner when I check out this book, I was pretty close.
I used what I learned within this book to make a great website for my small company. Reading this book also provided me with the gentle introduction I needed so as to understand more advanced website design and programming books and tutorials at a later date, and today I build websites for small enterprises and individuals professionally. This book didnt teach me everything I required to know to be able to become a specialist web designer, but it really was this can be the most helpful place to start I know of.
The book gently introduces new concepts and skills slowly enough for making sense to beginners, but quickly enough to keep up the sense that youre really learning something cool. The JavaScript section is minimal, nevertheless the book doesnt tell you they are a resource for learning JavaScript programming plus the introduction it gives will do for the beginning freelance web designer-you at least be able to use waste JavaScript obtained online. The HTML and CSS covered inside book is thorough and intensely useful for real-world applications. By the time youre halfway through this book, you will be able to follow online HTML and CSS tutorials to complete whatever little website design tricks pop for your head, also to get creative and explore on your individual.
If you're a regular computer user who understands the basic principles opening programs, saving files, browsing the net and you continue with the exercises in this particular book mindfully and diligently, youll learn basic website development. Its as basic as that. I wish I could have read it ten years ago.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this with a friend
Comments about OReilly Media Creating a Website: The Missing Manual, 3rd Edition :
It explains basic things and just skims a little on what topics stay in a particular chapter. Im sure it is just not easy to cram in a mere one book precisely what needs to be said to create a good website, thats why I think they shouldve neglected the javascript section completely and use the room to dwelve more on the topics from the previous chapters. A thing for instance a light intro to javascript is worthless plus it only discourages your readers. For this reason I do not recommend this book like a starter book to construct a website, you defnitely require some previous knowledge; in case you have previous experience, this book will reinforce it, you need to be warned that it isn't a starting with scratch kinda book.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this into a friend
Comments about OReilly Media Creating a Website: The Missing Manual, 3rd Edition :
I employ a few other books and also this one brings a whole lot together. This can be a great resource, written well and using a lot of good technical hints.
As another reviewer said, its a huge book, yes it's, it covers significant amounts of material. It is developed in a way that appeal to beginner and advanced users. It provides you with a good lay in the land for developing sites, with or without tools. After looking over this, you sense you have a very great knowledge base to look forward. Whether performing it yourself yourself, downloading a free of charge tool, or buying something youll need. Either way you are feeling you have the knowledge to produce the right choice. The mention of the external tools, internet websites, reference points, is fantastic, and makes this, worth possessing book.
Other topics that happen to be helpful include publishing your blog, getting entirely on line, blogs, etc. Unlike other books that discuss just creating a site, this blog addresses your next steps you'd probably have, which can be helpful in considering every one of the things was required to get your web site up and running. They really did their research and it also has been an enormous help.
When taking a look at web creation and publishing books you will possess a lot of choices and will probably have to buy a few books. Start with this one therefore you will have a very great deal of tools in the first place.
If you're doing so yourself, as I have, you are going to appreciate the depth and breadth the publication has at each and every subject along the route.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to some friend
Comments about OReilly Media Creating a Website: The Missing Manual, 3rd Edition :
Rather than been an inhuman how-to guide, Mathew MacDonald has effectively maintained a bad of this book as exactly what a geekish teacher who shares his expertise in years in a very friendly and an easy task to understand tone. Ultimately you ends up not merely knowing how to develop a web site, but about fine tuning and marketing it to fit its requirements.
Apart through the technical lessons on HTML, CSS and Java script this author has focussed quite a lot about achieving what exactly is expected from the online world site. How Google finds our site, the best way to improve the visibility to search engines like google, the best way to put advertisements without distracting viewers and tips on how to advertise using adsence are a handful of examples. The gravity of such facts wouldn't grab my attention until I read them on this book.
Attracting new visitors and keeping visitors returning is one with the key goals of any website. This book carries a great level of trips and ideas to achieve it. The introduction in regards to the traffic virus, forums, and mailing lists serve this purpose.
Concluding the review, this missing manual is especially recommended into a novice to find out the art of successful internet site development alone. Yet it's equally effective to somebody with roots about the internet- to switch, promote and adjust his already running website or blog.

Im a first time. I bought Creating a Website. At about chapter 8 I remarked that reading the writing, trying to continue with the examples then again having to study the solution html hasn't been sticking inside my head. The book, in my opinion, just isn't didactic to get a newbie.
So I bought Head First HTML XHTML with CSS. AWESOME newbie boodk
After completing, literally, that whole Head First book, Im enjoing Creating a Website.
Think than it like HTML CSS 101 and 102!
If you're a beginner, have the Head First book first.

Lets say, theoretically, you truly want to create your own personal website You have no idea what direction to go, you've got no formal background in computer science, and youre looking for the place to get started on.

I imagine that blurb could be the single biggest exaggeration Ive ever read in publishing.
There are 2 types of readers who can enjoy this book in order to find use in it: amateur and early-stage professional website developers that are looking to place their skills to the subsequent level, and fully-fledged professional front-end website developers who're interested in specific parts to further improve their understanding with the bigger picture. If you are the theoretical reader I postulated with the beginning with the review - - this aint the special moment book, bub. It certainly wasnt in my opinion, either.
This book is often a whiz-bang lightning-round summary of many areas of basic website design. Read more

This could be the most complete all-in-one manual on webdesign I have ever read. I was amazed within the amount of information covered on this book, it's almost overwhelming. But, when you stick it out, the result will be a thorough foundation on webdesign, community building and, in the event you wanted to, takes place new found knowledge and skills for making money on the internet. This book is written, such as title states, in the manual-like style, together step-by-step solutions, simple examples and detailed explanations. And If that wasnt enough already, inside the appendix there can be a HTML5 reference, plus a bunch of website links, grouped by chapters to help extend your understanding in each subject. I found this book an easy task to read and understand that's one on the main explanations why I liked it a lot. I would endorse this book to anyone who would like to start a career in website development or development mainly because it will give them a rock-solid foundation how things work and fit in its entirety. I would also recommend this book to organization owners, or marketing managers since it will give them an extensive understanding from the whole development process just for them to intelligently discuss their next web project with prospective designers without their eyes glazing over from lack of understanding. Finally, I would definitely recommend this book to someone else, who, maybe just desires to start a blog, or come up with a webpage, or figure out how to use stylesheets or javascript in the already existing website - - this is the publication for you because you'll accomplish that in mere a chapter or two are available out ahead which has a great reference manual to start.
Thank you for ones feedback.

OReilly Publishing provided me entry to an electronic copy in this book for review purposes.
Matthew writes this book as if you has no previous knowledge about coding as well as no knowledge about really understanding how the net works, how servers render webpages and learning how a URL works. So when you have lots of knowledge about these areas this book probably isnt in your case. If however, youve never developed a webpage before or its been quite a long time since youve coded this is the publication that you want to receive. The book is divided into five parts:
Welcome to the online world-which covers basic fundamentals of how the net works, basic HTML, and uploading your webpage to the net
Building better webpages-covers tips on how to use CSS, add images to your website, and creating pages
So by the end from the book the various readers is able to find out how a webpage works, design their unique basic one and know some really good practices for the process, and learning slightly beyond basic principles with JavaScript. The book can be accompanied by a site for future updates as well as an appendixes with online practical information on learning more HTML and websites mentioned inside chapters to find additional resources.
Having previous experience designing webpages I started reading and reviewing this book to be a chance to look for a guide that will be a handy reference or a little of a refresher course when my head decided to travel to sleep. The good: Each chapter is designed in a clear, simple to understand format that covers the basic principles of getting started. The bad: I did employ a few difficulty with some on the information given and just how it was worded. Read more

First of, the OReilly books have already been a great resource for learning tips on how to code I probably have a very whole library suite of the coding books right now.
Having prior knowledge of your lot in the features that HTML5 and CSS3 have; I knew that I would possibly skim on the large part in this book.
My real involvement in purchasing this book was within the chapter about building Responsive Websites chapter 14.
As you might know, the novel offers helpful supplemental files for tutorials BTW, I am with all the files in the online source - not the disc-.
I didnt need to develop the code over completely from scratch from the previous chapter which it had been using as a kick off point so I just grabbed the pre-built code dealing simply with this chapter so I could follow along.
When I saw the code it became a disaster. Almost the many code still existed aligned little indentation there were no spaces for basic readability.
So instead on this author letting me get promptly into working on this chapter, I had to re-position each of the code additionally I could see what I was doing.
Making it worse, the chapter 14 has you cut and paste a section from the code. And since none on the closing div tags are labeled commented by class name I had to also know what closing div travels to what opening tag thank goodness you can find only 3 divs within the whole page.
Once again, I like these books a good deal. But I hate the need to spend time to mend code that I should be capable to jump straight into and practice.
See how a code 's all lined up within the left.

I am only 1/2 way through the publication, but so far it really is very simple to read and presents lots of useful examples. I feel like I am already competent to understand examples and CSS authored by others considerably quicker. My only complaint is that it can be a bit repetitious, explaining some topics in multiple chapters rather then referencing them. This makes reading the novel cover to cover a tad time consuming, however, perhaps it will come in handy later when working with it to be a reference.
