I have PowerDVD 12 running on my small Media Center PC, which works just great. Its also the one Blu-Ray player during my living room, therefore it gets used a great deal. It also does not have any problem playing any 2D or 3D Blu-Ray moving Ive thrown advertising online. However, I had a new need with my primary Windows 8 PC for the blu-ray player. And that is naturally, playing just as much content as I can discover at 4K2K Resolution 3840x2160 30 Hz through Seiki Digital SE50UY04 50-Inch 4K UHD 120Hz LED HDTV Im currently using being a monitor. Interesting feature, but Ill follow XBMC because it's free and does a better job of organizing large media libraries.
Granted, they are a little more complicated to arrange, however are much more rewarding once it is all totally setup. Otherwise the library hasnt had any issues playing MKV files encoded with H.264 and DTS-HD audio. Since thats virtually what all my library contains, well, everything played all right.
I couldnt leave this part out because its just about the primary reason somebody is likely to buy the offer. And well, it can do just as good of any job at playing Blu-Ray movies as many of the previous versions. There is still copy protection involved here that's going to have to have a HDCP High-Definition Content Protection connection that's there to only prevent pirates from copying the movie. Which theyve had the oppertunity to do for quite a while now.
So really it's doing it limiting people who actually bought the movie from playing it in a few situations, such as on my small 4K at 4K. But enough about copy protection as I suppose it's just not entirely CyberLinks fault. Although in the event the hardware Blu-Ray players are capable of doing it, why cant we obtain the same love within the PC world?
Otherwise Blu-Ray playback couldnt be much better. Theres a great deal of nice features like thumbnail preview through navigation slider, very intense Blu-Ray start up to learn right away, sub-title selection, etc.

Overall, Im likely to rate the application on its own merit, instead of based around the assumption that you currently have a recent version of PowerDVD. The bottom line is that PowerDVD 13 really is often a solid Blu-Ray player. It still does exactly what was originally made for and has made relatively positive improvements from previous versions. I just wish theyd limit some in the bloat and gives a slim-line version that has all key audio/video features, for instance 3D and 7.1 audio. Then take out stuff you might not want, like the Library and TrueTheater enhancements.
As it can be right now, youre style of forced in the expensive Ultra version for getting everything Id want. Plus, it almost loses a star just for your misleading 4K logo. Ill carry on using with my main media center PC to view how it can long term rrmprove as needed. As usual, inquiries, twenty-four hours a day let me know inside the comments and Ill respond ASAP.

I own Powerdvd 11 ultra but I would like to warn potential purchasers whatever they could be letting themselves set for. Whether you wish to pick this up from Amazon or from Cyberlink themselves, know that from version 12 onwards Cyberlink has included the horror that is called Cinavia. This is actually protection against pirated movies and sits inside audio track. Many movies in the cinema now contain this and anyone smuggling a camcorder into there local cinema will still find it can effect them as well. After approx 20 mins the audio will mute plus a message will show up telling them what has happened. When combined with PowerDVD 12 or 13, this will effect original purchased movies at the same time, but only if these are using programs including Anydvd-HD which can be used for making your pc region free at the same time as take care of the latest movie protection etc. It is Anydvd-HD that's falsely alerting the safety, not the movie. If you've got no aim of using Anydvd-HD it doesnt really effect you, though its worth proclaiming that there is really a feature from it to circumvent Cinavia, but is only a work around and won't remove the security all together. Some original blu-ray 3D movies I own clearly label Cinavia with the bottom with the case about the rear side. Not all do but movies like Hotel Translyvania is but one such title. Also be aware that the PS3 has Cinavia in-built at the same time. For me I am keeping Powerdvd 11 with this exact reason. Oh, and a few other players like TMT6 also contain this protection. Better to check first before parting along with your hard earned cah. Plenty of information online about Cinavia you can even examine Powerdvd and Anydvd forums etc. Hope it will help you!
