I stood a database I made out of Omnis software. I really wouldn't want the fee for upgrading Omnis and selected Filemaker Pro. I knew a decent amount about DB concepts but nothing regarding how Filemaker works and its particular interface.
I did purchase two books on Filemaker: Filemaker 12 In Depth and Filemaker Pro 12: The Missing Manual.
I exported my old DB in Tab delimited format. Looked into one book to determine the import and I had my whole DB converted in some seconds. I defined the format definitions to the loaded fields with virtually no help from your books.
I stumbled about the layout formatting section to construct a display rrmprove screen for my data. I would not have to read anything, I found most with the layout process being intuitive. Now I am happily dealing with my DB.

We are already using FMP to own our business for since version1. It very seldom does, still only over a single user since FM9. It auto-saves every time you click away from a record, so only the latest entry is lost put a commit button in to accomplish a quick manual save as needed. The server makes backups every half an hour of my most essential data, therefore, the most lost could be 30 minutes of training. I have 14 users running off just one mac mini server. There are 34 databases, with multiple tables, the principal database having over 200 layouts, 21 tables and more than 1200 fields.
