I experienced the identical problem but fixed it myself by.
1. uninstalling StuffIt 2009 first
2. scanning my registry settings file with and deleting all Stuffit references.
3. reinstalling Stuffit 2010.

I wouldn't reccomend the program to anyone. It isnt for your average user nor can it be particularly easy to use. It isnt as customizable as the old dinosaur ZipIt.
