Almost every example should have a very terse explanation of the items the code does, with practically no break down in the code itself, including why the syntax would be the way it can be, what some variables are, etc. Essentially, I can say such a given section of code would do, but find nothing about whats associated with writing it. I originated from SQL, which can be a very different beast, but despite some programming experience I found this did not do enough to completely explain such a reader has to know. I can only imagine exactly what might be like for a person with no programming experience, that's exactly who this book pitches itself to.
Im fashionable strong believer in exercises and challenges to receive the reader to evaluate their knowledge. Anyone who has learned a programming language sees that you really improve by doing. At most this allows someone to reproduce examples, but there is no questions or exercises to produce that extra learning dimension.
