In broad terms, the curriculum is structured as follows:
Year 1: Develop creative, conceptual and expressive skills utilizing a range of media production exercises and experiences.
Year 2: Develop and refine technical skills and strengthen aesthetic, theoretical and conceptual abilities with the completion in the qualifying pre-thesis project; take additional non-production courses.

The MCTD includes New York City, Dutchess, Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk, and Westchester counties.
For the time 2015-2019, productions with budgets over 500, 000 can purchase an additional 10 % credit on qualified labor expenses incurred within the following counties:
