There is, however, an essential unaddressed problem. Starting with Finale 2010, certain files created in older versions of Finale stopped opening. Finale 2010 would try and open the file, then crash. The files aren't corrupted, because they still open fine inside the older versions of Finale. I sent one particular file to MakeMusic and in addition they confirmed the issue. They suggested exporting most of my files that there are thousands in XML format, then reimporting them into Finale 2010, which could have taken weeks, so I lost the battle and have been using Finale 2008a. Sadly, I contacted MakeMusic and they also confirmed the issue has not been fixed in Finale 2011. So, for longtime Finale users, I cannot recommend this update. A quick search around the web shows that you will find plenty of others dealing with this particular problem, but a solution is not offered.
For those coming to grips with notation software, Finale remains the standard, this might work okay, but I do think glitches genuinely raise certain questions, particularly when the Sibelius notation software has become so successful competing with Finale. Consider carefully.

I have never used Finale in years and was totally impress with what steps it has come. The sounds are incredible plus the interface appears to have greatly improved and gotten quicker to use. I recommend this for any individual looking to placed their musical ideas as a result of paper.

Maybe its because Ive been using Finale for a long time, but I dont see the supposed fastest, smartest, fastest way to write music - Sibelius. As a casual user, I dont utilise all the features Finale provides. As a music educator and composer/arranger, I do make use of the average list of features you would expect to generate a Piano/Vocal Score or even a Band or Orchestral arrangement. I thought digging in the mixer environment and after this all the production and sequencing tools make the application complete. You dont should export work to hear an incredibly reasonable rendition of the arrangement AND you are able to record or import audio and sync it! I dont usually upgrade each year, when I do, I wait for an sale upgrade price. Great, fantastic mind awaiting it in order to save a few bucks. If the sale price was a normal price, I would upgrade each year.
Finale is equipped with a learning curve, but I never think it is daunting. As in every software application I find what I need and employ it! I use both Mac and PC and thrive inside ever-so-intuitive an entire world of Apple how computers really should be, I just dont GET the intuitiveness that Sibelius claims. Apparently their intuitive isn't mine. I am proud to become FINALE USER. Finale Always produces professional looking results.

I had Finale Printmusic 2010 for any year plus it was great, but I out-grew it. Ive been an on again off again user of Finale since version 1 waaaaay back inside early nineties. I was obviously a regular user during music school also to the best of my knowledge was the very first student inside my school to make use of it as serious composition school. I would never passed tonal counterpoint without. My keyboard skills aren't anywhere near good enough to play a 4 voice fugue. Finale can participate in it for you and much more.
