I downloaded the trial version of the application to determine what it are capable of doing and it s feature rich and powerful. For me even though it s biggest drawback is always that it s not only a 64 bit application.
I generally use Photo Elements 7 when coming up with my fractal art composition and assist large file sizes typically inside the range of 700MB one.4Gb which I can open quickly and easily in PE7; however with PSP X5 the most important file I can open can be a small file.
Another problem using this type of PSP X5 is always that it doesn't recognize most of my system memory. I have 12GB plus the program only sees 4GB, PE7 within the other hand recognizes the many memory I have within my system.
I would invest take advantage this application if this was a 64bit application, but as it s still 32bit it s something I can t use. If your file sizes are relatively small , you do many photo editing or photo manipulations this should actually be a great tool, because as I said before it possesses a massive amount of features.
Since Adobe announced their new charges, I have been searching for alternatives. I downloaded the free Trial of Corel, very slow to load I have 2Tb of photos on my own system, disabled the cataloging, deleted the Database file, still slow at loading up, it crashes and freezes in my Quad-core, 16GB RAM, 1Gb video card desktop system Adobe CS 4 and its programs never produce trouble. Though CPSPx5 has some nice features, the clunkiness rules it for me.

Not what I was told the course notes said it was obviously a bug they are able to anyway if you need to use it which has a maybe you should foreget about RAW files and utilize JPEG!!!
The Program did okay personally. I had issues when I first installed it. It isn't going to come with extras included within the CD like past versions in the program did. But a Corel technician helped with that, through getting me to down load each of the files I needed.
Oh, the Digimarc plug-In will simply work from Image Watermarking Embed Watermark now.
In yesteryear, you'd probably go to Effects Plugins Digimarc but Digimarc
won't support this system anymore.

Awful program. Interface is kludgy and poorly designed, much less bad as Adobe, but wanting to imitate that app destroyed the fact that was Paint Shop s best feature - - simplicity. One of essentially the most buggy apps I ve ever used. Almost as bad as Pinnacle, as class with regards to bad code. Won t load, takes forever to load, freezes, won t permit you to save work. A total mess. I thought X2, X3, X4 were bad. This will be the worst. I ve quit Corel and chosen Photoshop, which I detest. It s that bad.
Updaqte as at 29th October re Corel Paint Shop Pro X5 and AfterShot Pro. Both products still exhibit drastic vignettingdistortion when downloading wide angle RAW files taken with Canon G1X. Finally Corel have closed this file, as i was told that to no activity for that last 10 Interesting!! there was clearly no communication from Corel during tha t time that any action from other end was contemplated. I have tested both Lightroom 4 and Photoshop Elements 11 - those two Adobe products manage to handle these files correctly. I d become to hear of anybody else who ve experienced similar difficulty with these Corel products.

The saga with PSP X5 continues after six months of trying for getting this software to function correctly with G1X RAW Files. IMHO selling this supplement knowing that there is often a bug inside the system is False advertising. I am continuing using this type of matter as among principle. Why isn t this provider listening to their clients. All anybody can say is Caveat Emptor - BUYER BEWARE
Paintshop Pro X4 is simply buggy! First it takes about 20 seconds to spread out up, in the event it does open correctly, then occasionally, it does not completely load and crash.
Seeing off their users here, why must I please take a chance with X5?
Since I purchased X4, I are yet to seen one update to correct to the bugs, and I haven't read that X5 corrected these bugs.
I may buy it second-hand on ebay, when folks start selling it, if this s cheap enough.
I run WinXP over a virus-free Quad speed cpu desktop and still have 4gb of memory and many room in this little hard drive!
This software X5 Ultimate crashes faster versus the Titanic. There s a few edits when I do them in a very row, this course will shut itself down every time. It s essentially useless.
No respond to my email for support. No support telephone number. Calling the sales line it is said you have to submit your 1 free support request online. Of course the shop won t restore open software so my only recourse is always to contact my plastic card company and set a refund request into it.
Really sad how the offer went downhill much after Corel took it over. I m a lttle bit slow, but won t discover it again.

Just downloaded PSP X5 along with the bug Corel introduced once they first bought JASC continues. Save a PNG file using inches and once you open it the type appear in cm, plus they don t round accurately. Too bad they couldn t have fixed this in six releases over numerous years, even after they hear about it as being a reported bug time and time again after year.
Don t trust in any glitch getting fixed given this amount of disregard, but if you may use the sofware out of the box, do it now.
Recently I trialled Lightroom 4 and located no problems in downloading and editing RAW files from Canon G1X. However using both PaintShop Pro X5 and Corel AfterShot Pro, I have encountered unacceptable vignetting and distortion greatest at wide angle zoom.
The sole method I could overcome playstation 3 download my Raw G1X files right to my computer, use Adobe DNG, convert them before editing in PSP 5.
One hope this can be fixesd quickly.

I ve used PSP X2 previously and quite liked the merchandise. I never got round to X3 or X4 but I thought I d give X5 a glance as I was interested within the ND filters. Having downloaded the trial version I find that ColorEfex Pro 3.0 isn't included should you not buy. Not much of any trial if you'll be able to test certainly one of Corel s main selling points! However, I did much like the single raw feature. Other than that, most on the other changes since X2 manage to just bloat the product and still have little fascinate me.
I bought X4 last fall. For this beginner, basic fundamentals were convenient to use. The learning curve is quite steep, though, in order to learn the many bells and whistles on the full editing/drawing program. That is probably true of any full featured photo editing software. Fortunately I bought a fantastic book to go while using software, and hopefully at some point I ll have an excellent set of editing/drawing skills. On the whole, I m very pleased with PSPx4 and prefer to stick with Corel for some time. No Adobe for me personally!
As almost as much ast I like PSPx4, I love, love, love AfterShot Pro. Super easy, fast, wonderful results. One can t say enough good items about ASP.
The main gripe I have about Corel Photo-Paint X4 is the fact I cannot save TIF files with 16-bit color. 16-bit support seems tied to input files and also a few select image enhancement features.
Worse, this system actually making you think that you'll be able to save a 16-bit TIF, but when I then make saved TIF and look at the histogram, I find that you have only 256 distinct amounts of RGB information, not 65, 536 with all the wide histogram plugin in Photoshop, or perhaps the freeware application Histogrammar.
UPDATE: oh wait, I see that it news article is all about PaintShop Pro, not Photo-Paint. Never

I haven t tried this, even so the reason they treat HDR being a different feature happens because it s different, for two reasons.

I got a communication from Corel offering X5 for 59.99 as a possible upgrade I have X4 now. Will X5 replace AfterShot Pro? Rumor has it that AfterShot Pro may die a pokey death. AfterShot will be the best RAW converter for that money and faster and much easier to use than LightRoom. I hope ASP stays around. Doubt I ll give X5 trying until they drop the upgrade price.
Totally different products. Aftershot Pro is usually a RAW workflow app, and PSP is really a full featured editor. It s just like the difference between Photoshop and Lightroom.
And as for your slow death, why would Corel buy Bibble merely to let it die?
right maybe. Like PSP5 ASP works fine with RAW files from Canon 5D, but cannot handle RAW files from Canon be sure you try before you purchase.
I purchased converters from PSE10, ASP, ACDSee6pro and Olympus2 with all the same images with all of settings at 0 to TIFF, then placed the image sets alongside each other 100% and 200% in PSE calibrated monitor. I did this because ASP seemed being more than soft that it was very spongy and I wanted to view the difference. Its a toss up over PSE and ACDSee for raw conversion of EM-5 raw files in greater detail, they're similar in colour too.
ASP has some terrific features but RAW conversion isn't one of them. It would be the worst converter I used. ACDSee is slightly richer than PSE converter, that is certainly good as I have adopted ACDSee due to its superior light handling.
No Aftershot pro RAW conversion is just not good. Pity the rest can be a good usable package.
Most important thing they can have added was 64-bit support. This is one from the least featured update that I can recall.
Despite being 32 bit, it will handle large files remarkably well. X3 you could potentially kill with 16 bit TIFF files mainly because it had a memory leak whereas this plus the same was true of X4 is great in this regard.

Agreed. But Adobe is releasing annual versions of Elements with just one minor add-on effects and wizards, so Corel probably has pressure to keep up with the side-by-side comparison charts.
The cheapest price right now is going to become PSP X4 Ultimate. It s 50 on Amazon today. The Ultimate bundle already has Nik Color Efex, including Film effects, X-processing, GND filters, etc. So who cares if Corel has those built-in with X5?

Its not much of the upgrade from X4 Ultimate. The upgrade price is just not worth it yet for ND filters and few brushes plus some social networking stuff. I will hang around for awhile, a minimum of until the first service pack.
I left windows in 97 and PaintShop Pro behind. I had thought Corel would've made a Mac version if they bought Jasc out, but grey matter at Corel will not exist.
Mac users still only makeup 10% from the market and quite a few all? macs include iphoto, etc, which limits potential sales a step forward. I think it is more of an numbers game and I d image some mental ability was used in coming compared to that conclusion.

tkbslc, that Macs occupy 10% with the market is irrelevant here. In photography, Macs have a very much larger share. One number I saw stated that 50% of Photoshop sales will be to Macs.
The 10% figure is only with the total market including bulk purchasers for office cubicles, where computers are purchased like copiers and water coolers.

As a cheerful amateur I ve been using PaintShopPro given it ran under DOS and GEM! Version X4 was a minimum of up untill a final service pack an entire disaster. It wouldn t properly recognise the proper color space from my Sony A77 and couldnet also be relied on to rotate images correctly. So in my opinion X5 was Corels last chance, up to now I ve found no issues, plus it is substantially faster about 300%!.
