Posted by Ludek Uher in SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio on Jun 7, 2011 1:13:28 PM With Crystal Reports XI R1 being outside of support more than a year now, and CR XI R2 quickly approaching end of support June 30, 2011, all CR XI R1 and CR XI R2 Fix Packs and Service Packs have already been removed and replaced by Crystal Reports XI R2A. One of many reasons because of this change is simplification. Rather than worrying about 10 Service Packs the project is simplified to for the most part two downloads. The process of updating your install to CR XI R2A could possibly be different for CR XI R1 and CR XI R2. Bellow is some of each update.
7 Once both from the above are installed, open the Crystal Reports Designer. In the Help menu, select About Crystal Check the version. It really should be 11.5.12.1838.
7 Once the install of Crystal Reports XI R2A SP6 Incremental Build ends, open the Crystal Reports Designer. In the Help menu, select About Crystal. Check the version. It ought to be 11.5.12.1838.
As an FYI, version of CR XI R2A SP4 is 11.5.10.1263, but updating this to SP6 much like above is very recommended.
There are not any new runtime MSM or MSI files. Runtime MSM and MSI files from CR XI R2 pertain to CR XI R2A:

Crystal Reports you say? What version? It s baked into your application? How is it embedded? What will it do? Do you know what Developer Libraries they used? SDK? What? Who? When?
To boost the comfort, the key reason why I joined Crystal Decisions hundreds of many years ago was on account of Crystal Reports. I d used Crystal Reports may times in past times and I d for ages been amazed at how easy it had been to use. I was an existing ISAM guy, therefore the fact that this tool could write SQL was pretty cool. naturally now I know which it s less good at writing SQL as other tools, but ignorance is bliss. When I found a possibility on HotJobs to get a Presales Consultant I jumped in the chance. I d always worked at small companies with 150 employees now wow I could have an opportunity to help sell an item that just about everyone in IT has heard about.
Why has everyone been aware of it? Because it s everywhere. The one plus side to Crystal Reports is the fact Greg Kerfoot knew great and bad market share, so he bundled packaged, included, gave away, OEM ed, shipped, advertised Crystal Reports in each and every way, shape and form. It really became a household name. A true reporting standard. Long before anyone ever thought from the term Business Intelligence, Crystal was blazing a trail, that can bring me to my question with the start of your blog.
The big plus with Crystal is which it s everywhere. My first couple of months at Crystal Decisions I found customers received all kinds of crazy ways to utilize Crystal Reports and I necessary to understand how they may use it so I can help you them especially because the web was now under way and people were attempting to web-enable their old Visual Basic applications.
Well, here is often a summary of what I ve learned through the years regarding Crystal Reports. There were lots of different SDKs Software Developer Kits that have been introduced in the past. As technologies changed, so did the libraries offered to developers for creating applications. Here is often a timeline of those changes.
The RDC, the most popular in the SDKs intended for Crystal Reports has become depreciated and does not ship with XI 3.0. Although we introduced a different web-client centric SDK in 2002 together with the advent of Crystal Reports 9 and Visual many customers have already been slow to switch their legacy applications. When moving for RDC to one in the new APIs, you will need to rewrite you.
Just like all other code migration from Visual Basic 6 to Framework, recoding is required when migrating in the Report Designer Component in Visual Basic 6 to Crystal This is because with the APIs, which vary on the COM APIs.
One of one of the best stories was from within the Crystal Reports 8 days. I remember traversing to a customer who was simply complaining the Crystal was crashing. I went onsite plus those days when a machine comes with an IIS server upon it, you may access Crystal Reports throughout the ActiveX viewer by referencing the report within a shared directory. This customer was running 120 concurrent users about the same CPU machine!! They had obtained a 500 software application and were serving up reports to 1000s of end-users. No wonder the device was falling over. That poor DLL was getting hammered. Fortunately in Crystal 8.5 we limited the volume of concurrent threads to and no one complained that Crystal was crashing. Now it absolutely was time for all of us to collect because ahead of the 5 concurrent users was a paper license.
Crystal Reports will continue to provide a RAS SDK as part on the Crystal Reports Developer Addition. This RAS SDK can often both embedded and also managed report environments. An embedded environment is the place where you manage every one of the Crystal Reports content yourself through the job. This could be convenient but means there is often a lot more work with the developer to complete around managing content, scalability, etc.
Note: Consider carefully whether you'll use embedded or managed reporting for ones development product since the SDKs calls can vary slightly based on which you employ. In any case, make certain and encapsulate your logic around user authentication and opening reports. If you do should change from embedded reporting to managed reporting, HERE is an outstanding whitepaper that walks you with the process.
Originally we followed Microsofts lead my offering an internet farm/web garden license, but that got confusing. Now we turn it into a lot easier.
If you make use of Crystal Reports within an unmanaged mode, you'll have a limited number of threads it is possible to use. In some cases we provide packages with additional threads For example we employed to offer Crystal Enterprise Embedded which provided more capacity. This is no more available away from our OEM channel. In all other cases, you will have to move to a managed reporting model. That means you will ought to move the processing on the Crystal Reports off you and onto a 2nd service that will handle the report processing in your case.
The best news is always that once you proceed to managed reporting you are able to upgrade to an increasing number of capabilities in the server product family. Crystal Reports Server would be the introductory product. The other levels are:
For Midmarket and Enterprise customers respectively.
And Remember the old ActiveX Viewer?
It employed to be the sole viewer. But now it s a whole new day. I strongly suggest you try to stay away in the ActiveX viewer if at all possible. Although it s not officially deprecated, it can be legacy technology and yes it not supported with many of our latest developments web services SDK. If it is possible to avoid using it, I would. If you may t, I d love to know why.
I found your blog post very useful. I have a few questions I hope you'll be able to help. I am using the Alberta government and I am responsible to upgrade crystal report 9 to make use of crystal report 2008 server. I have tried searching for resource the proper way to to upgrade but unfortuntely it really is difficult to seek out good sources of information. Can you recommend any links to great information on while using the crystal report 2008 server? Thank you for help.
There is really a huge difference between Crystal Reports and Crystal Reports Server. Crystal Reports lets a developer develop a report and save it file. The Crystal Reports Server software allows file to get published right into a managed environment where people can view, export and refresh the info from the report with out Crystal Reports for their desktop!
Crystal Reports have already been delivered through web since early 2000. Here is usually a list of functions you get with Crystal Reports Server. /16S8Hn
If you would wish to see more, don t be scared to contact someone on the sales team. On the same page, /16S8Hn, you'll find a link which says Locate a salesperson. They can explain the complete process for upgrading, etc.
Please told me if you might have additional questions.
Not positive that my email to your account made it thru, but here's my question david. much appreciated.
if I have a BOE XI R23.1 server running entirely 64 bits, would it not still be ok if I deploy crystal reports from your 32 bit client machine thru Crystal Reports this system?
BOE XI R2, even when deployed on 64-bit hardware and 64-bit Windows OS, is compiled into 32-bit binary. BOE isn't yet accessible in native 64-bit mode, which means 64-bit concern is irrelevant. There is no problem saving a Crystal Reports to BOE throughout the Crystal Reports program or with the publishing wizard.
Thank you Dave. Appreciated your help using this!
Can I consult with you how is it possible Crystal Report XI Developer can upgrade?
If you bought maintenance with the copy of Crystal Reports, then it is possible to upgrade on the next version at no additional cost.
MALA: Can I consult you how is it possible Crystal Report XI Developer can upgrade?
It depends if the Crystal Reports licenses is current on maintenance. If it truly is, your upgrade is free of charge, or even, you will have to repurchase the newest version.
In our current environment, we're also using crystal reports in unmanaged mode with Crystal reports 9, ASP and ActiveX Viewer.
We have licenses for both CR XI R2 and CR Server XI R2. We are planning to upgrade our intranet report application and CR XI R2.
We plan to utilize both Crystal Reports and MS Reporting services. Therefore unmanaged mode is earning a living for our scenario.
Is there any way to make use of Crystal Reports XI or Crystal Reports Server XI in unmanaged mode to compliment more than 3 simutaneous threads?
It appears like Crystal Reports Server embedded version serve our needs nevertheless it only designed for OEM partners? Is there another solutions beside this?
We purchased maintenance with your copies of Crystal Reports XI and Crystal Reports Server. Where can I find the free upgrade of next version?
Thanks for explaining your plight so clearly. Unfortunately for yourself, unmanaged reporting is will no longer a possibility; however there is often a near equivalent. You can use managed reporting together with the default GUEST username. The guest username is usually a default user that exists on every BO system and also default it's got no password. THEREFORE, I suggest you update your Crystal Reports SERVER and use the modern opendocument feature in XI which allows one to easily access reports with a URL when you did inside your unmanaged environment.
Hi I am using crystal report 10.5 therefore we have now moved to
64 bit platform with Visual studio 2010, my business is trying to migrate crystal report,
my old template to new 64 bit. we are able to some reports created as a fresh template but my old template
any idea about the way to migrate this old 32 template to 64 bit form. i've just reopened the templates
The problem isn t with all the template, it s together with the database drivers. Your current Crystal is 32-bit however it attempting to hook up with a 64-bit data connector. This isn t possible. If Crystal is 32-bit, it may only hook up to a 32-bit driver. If you are using Visual Studio 2010, you will should upgrade to Crystal Reports for Visual Studio. This can be a 64-bit version of Crystal Reports. It is designed for download here:

I think this could be the first time I have seen a product or service with Service Pack 0.:-For some reason, this can be pretty difficult information to locate and Icannot apparently locate any information for older versions of Crystal Reports. If anyone would wish to share, I will add it for the table.
For Crystal 2011, it appears to always say RTM following version number. For example, I just installed SP 6, also it says:
So use the build number, not what it really says after.
A more in depth list from the build versions and further links for Crystal Reports could be foundon the Software Forces website.
Update on Oct 10, 2015: Service Pack downloads for Crystal Reports are virtually impossible to get. After much searching I finally found this article which looks promising. No guarantee that it will probably be here or working tomorrow.:-
Thank you Victoria. Maybe SAP will hire that you organize the website for Crystal Reports. Thanks.
I might put you on my small Christmas list, Victoria! Thanks a great deal for all your wonderfully helpful, nicely documented information!
The link for CR 2008 SP1 above is broken. I ve wanted hours which enables it to t seem to locate a good one. Any help please?
Unfortunately it seems as if they only have SP 4 for CR 2008 about the SAP download site. Sorry.:-
Hello Victoria I am attempting to download SP 1 for Crystal Reports 2008 nevertheless the link seems to become broken. Please advise.
Sorry with that, happens frequently with these link, unfortunately. I would try one in the links with the bottom, beneath the chart. Hopefully you are able to get the download through one of these.
Not certain that you expected this and keep helping people you aren't, nonetheless it has. I converted a server from VMware to Hyper-V, and our Crystal Reports app died. Using your handy link for XI R2 SP3 brought it back.
Can you please let me know which version of Crystal report support sql server 2008 R2.
I am working away at CR XI R2 SP2 also it gives login failed error.
I haven't used anything except Crystal 2008 and 2011 for any long time, but I am pretty sure that I have used CR XI R2 with SQL 2008 R2 lacking any issue. I would recommend posting your error details about the Crystal Reports forum to determine if they might help you:?forumID408.
Thanks yery much because of this Victoria it's ace to achieve the information so common. Shows up SAP I reckon
